Collection: Rubik's Cube Timers

You can ask your buddy to time you solving the Rubik's Cube, but that is often not the ideal practice method for speedcubing events. Those competitions use standardised timers, and you should add one to your muscle memory practice routine, because often milliseconds can mean a win or fourth place. It makes sense then to use your own Rubik's Cube timer during practice sessions.

How to Select a Speed Cube Timer

There are many algorithms for solving the Rubik's Cube, and the general perspective is to obtain the fastest time by using the least number of moves. However, due to individual differences in brain logic and motor skills, we each have a best algorithm and a worst algorithm. Using a dedicated Rubik's Cube timer, you can empirically determine the optimal algorithm to solve the cube in the shortest possible time.

There are several factors that you should consider when purchasing a speed cube timer:

  • The sensitivity of the pressure tabs and overall stability is vital to prevent frustrating restarts and respond with an accurate time.
  • A connectivity slot will allow you to hook the timer up to an external display and transfer data to your computer for future analysis.
  • Make sure the batteries are freely available and carry spares with you – most timers use AAA batteries and can operate with rechargeables.
